Tour des Fleurs Garden Center Hop

Come ride along with old and new friends for a day of pure enjoyment as Bayfront Visions and the Duluth Garden Flower Society come together to bring you a unique opportunity—especially for garden lovers! The Tour des Fleurs Garden Center Bus Hop allows you to ‘Garden Hop’ the easy way! Twelve  garden centers in the Twin Ports, Northern Wisconsin, and in the Iron Range have agreed to host bus loads of eager gardeners by offering special shopping opportunities, workshops, seminars, demonstrations, and other exciting activities.

 

 

Board the Elm bus in Duluth to visit Mother Nature Company, Mac's Landscaping, and Garden Images just north of Duluth.

Workshops include:

  • Cut Floral Design: Whether you buy or cut flowers from your own garden, you will enjoy learning the art of floral design
  • Proper and Respectful Use of Garden Chemicals: With everything going green, this is a must-see seminar about using chemical in your landscape
  • The Moving Garden: How to put together combinations of perennials that make each other come alive, along with longevity of bloom

Board the Oak bus in Duluth to visit Missinne's Greenhouse, Pederson's Gardens and Landscapes, and The Garden House in northwestern Wisconsin.

Workshops include:

  • Sex in the Garden: Everything you need to know about plant propagation
  • Floral Containers for the Bees
  • Miniature Landscapes in Containers
  • Getting Shrubs Ready for Spring
  • New Introductions: Every year gardeners are wowed with new and improved varieties. But do you want to use them?
  • Container Gardening with Succulents: New succulents are water-wise, unusual in appearance and great in containers

Board the Maple bus in Duluth to visit Cherry Greenhouse, Swanson's Greenhouse, and Byrn's on the Iron Range.

Workshops include:

  • Growing "Green" Containers: Recycling old containers and making new and exciting green combinations
  • Rock Gardening: Master Gardener Susan Weirich will help you learn about set up, plant selections, and maintenance for your rock gardens
  • Tussie Mussie: Master Garden Susan Weirich will explain the meaning of various herbs and demonstrate how to assemble a Tussie Mussie.
  • Water Saving Container Ideas: Learn techniques and what supplies are needed when planting to minimize water requirements. A must for the cabin owner or people gone for long periods of time.

Board the Birch bus on the Iron Range to visit Edelweiss, Engwalls, and Lake Superior Garden Center in Duluth.

Workshops include:

  • Rain Gardens: Learn about the exciting concepts and facts about rain gardens, which are the way of the future
  • Blueberries: Yes, we can grow blueberries in northern climates!
  • Our Favorite Things: Joe and Deb of Edelweiss will share with you all of their favorite things while giving you a tour of their grounds.
  • Roses in the Landscape: Speaker Julie Overom will reveal the beauty, variety and benefits of hard shrub roses.

 

Delicious foods will be served for lunch. You may have a ‘walk-about’ lunch, or enjoy courtyard seating.

Maple, Oak and Elm buses leave from UMD at 7:30 am and will return at 3:00pm. Follow the directional signs on College Street to the parking lot.

Birch bus leaves Eveleth MRTC at 7:30 am and will return at 3:00.

 

We expect seats to sell out quickly. Take advantage of the Early Bird Registration: cost is only $30 if you register by May 15, 2009. After this date, cost is $35. Registrations must be received by May 22, 2009.

Seats will be sold on a “First-Come-First-Serve” basis. If you receive your check back, it means we have reached our bus capacity. Your name will be put on a cancellation list. You will be called or e-mailed should an opening occur.

There will be NO REFUNDS once you make your reservation.
